St Pauls Girls School
CASE STUDYSt Pauls Girls School is currently constructing a new building on the original site which is intended to keep the same historical look of the old building and provide a learning and relaxation space for the students.
Challenges
Nicholson became involved in this project at the request of building contractor 8build to address the problem of weathering the service penetrations in three locations at roof level. These included air conditioning ductwork, electrical supply cables and other services relating to the roof-mounted equipment.
Some of these services had already been partly installed when Nicholson conducted an on-site survey, and the kerb upstands to the roof openings interfaced with the parapet wall requiring a weathering detail at this point. A further requirement was future access for ongoing planned maintenance to fire dampers on the ductwork.
Solutions
The ROOFBOX® Modular system was chosen for this project due to its adaptability and ease of use in retrofit situations. Following a site survey Nicholson provided working drawings and section details for approval by the contractor.
The ROOFBOX® Modular System comprises of a frame which is installed directly on the kerb upstand and provides a weathering flashing to the roofing system in use. The pre-insulated, powder coated, aluminium wall and roof panels are manufactured to be fitted to the installed frame. Flashings are also provided in colour coordinated finishes to weather the services as they penetrate the wall of the enclosure.
The complete system was delivered to site in kit form with clearly labelled parts and fitting instructions allowing the building contractor to complete the installation using their own labour.

Products Used

roof cabinets
The ROOFBOX® weathering system for service penetrations provides a proprietary and guaranteed solution to the inherent problems associated with bringing pipes, cables and ducts through the waterproofing layer at roof level. These insulated aluminium units are powder coated and provide an alternative to the traditional ‘dog kennel’ approach to weathering services as they exit onto the roof.
